Throughout his career in law, attorney Geoffrey “Geoff” Scovil has prioritized advocating for the rights of indigent criminal defendants. He concentrates his practice on habeas corpus law, the procedure that requires justification for prisoner detainment and offers protection from other actions that would possibly violate an accused’s constitutional rights. Geoff Scovil, a privately practicing Albuquerque attorney, has drawn on his trial experience and research skills to challenge numerous cases of judicial errors and lapses in cases ranging from minor misdemeanors to federal conspiracy and violent crime cases. Scovil has distinguished himself as a top habeas corpus contractor with the State of New Mexico’s Public Defender Department.
Active in his community, Geoff Scovil recently sponsored the performance of Ralph Alessi’s Baida Quartet at the Outpost Performance Space in Albuquerque. A jazz aficionado and active Outpost supporter, he also contributes to such other local organizations as Emerge New Mexico, which offers training to female Democratic candidates for public office. In his free time, Geoffrey Scovil enjoys a variety of active hobbies including camping, hiking, biking, golfing, and sports. He plays softball, soccer, and basketball and is learning to play the bass guitar as well.
